On Thursday, Volodymyr Lytvyn,
Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
met the chess team of Ukraine
who gained the victory at the World Chess Olympics. Congratulating the Ukrainian chess team,
V.Lytvyn stated that their victory, gained among 160 teams of the world, "proved
that Ukraine is a country
for chess, and reminded the authority institutes and branches of the necessity
to develop chess sports in Ukraine,
as it lasts on self-devotion."
V.Lytvyn declared that "chess in not only a mental gymnastics, but also high standards of culture and tolerance, as well as evidence of intellectual skills and capacities."
V.Lytvyn conferred the Certificates of Honour to the members of the Ukrainian chess team for a substantial personal contribution to the development of chess in Ukraine, successful performance in the most prestigious international competition, consolidation of sports glory of Ukraine and formation of its positive image.
Expressing his gratitude to the
chess team, the Head of the Parliament stated that "their victory contributes
to the prestige and authority of Ukraine." He called for opening
chess clubs in the public schools to support authority of Ukraine as a country for chess. "This
is a long-lasting process," V.Lytvyn stressed.
